My Thoughts on Free Resources

• One of the many faces regarding the *Online* game is to offer something of value for free in order to gain creditability, make friends (i.e. get a growing list of eMail addresses) and ultimately open the door to offer possible products that the viewer will actually purchase.  (Taking this one step further...and to eventually makes some cash in return for your efforts!!!)
   

  • In other words, if I give you an amazing resource that truly helps your needs, you'll appreciate the effort, consider me as a valuable *friend/resource* and be more likely to buy something off or through me in the future.
     

  • Essentially, this is what MoneyOnlineReview is working towards - If I continue to give you great information, leads on how to make money and serious and honest reviews regarding the world of Online Marketing...perhaps one day, you'll follow my advice and buy a product through my site.  If you enjoy the product and felt my review/recommendation was superb, then you may even come back to read more reviews and purchase more products. (It's simply providing a great service and getting paid for it..a win-win situation for Me, the Buyer, and the product's Creator).
     

• Examples of free resources come in all sorts of flavours.  You'll probably notice by now that there are several *Mini-Sites* or one-page sites that offer "10 Ways to do X" or "Start your Online Career with the best kept Industry Secrets NOW," and you'll notice that in order to get this 'All-Powerful and FREE' information, you have to give over your eMail address.  Or perhaps as you leave a site, a pop-up will come up and say, "Get your free 7-Day Online-Marketing Course. Just enter your eMail address below."
   

  • These are all efforts designed to get you and I signed up to eventually buy something. The concept is absolutely fantastic - it works for us (as consumers) because we get what we're looking for - free resources and the ability to view interesting new products all within our area of interest!  In essence, we get to try (the web/product creator) before we buy and if we like the person offering the information and products we'll stick with them.
     

  • The concept also works for us (as Online Marketers) because we can provide information over the Web (that we're passionate about and enjoy doing) and surfers might just value the information you provide...and WALLAH - there is a Mutual Win-Win connection. 
     

    • How freaking awesome is that?  We as marketers spend our time doing what we love (for me, it's to read and write about interesting topics) and by doing what we love, people in the online community will get immense value from our offerings...we get paid and the online community get what they're looking for.
       

    • (KIM NOTE) I know that this concept of *Sales* is not new, but the meaning for me has changed...I really feeeeeeeeeeel like I'm trying my best to give all that I can and will one day be rewarded.  I want everyone to feel as great as I do and I want people to realize that if things are done correctly, everyone can WIN!!!
       

• The key is to use free resources to prove that we truly do care, we seriously want others to succeed and to ultimately break down the barrier of not meeting face to face.
   

• Instead of us being able to walk up to someone and *sell* ourselves, we need to use other skills to get people to view our services as valuable.  One of those skills is to offer something of great value for free.

• I'm not sure how you all are doing, but I feel as if my time and productivity evaporated recently.  After telling Simon (hubby) that I'm just going to reply to a few eMails, I would spend 3-4 hours diddling around and not even notice.  Furthermore, you must all be aware of how the Internet seems to draw you in for one purpose and then within seconds you find yourself doing something completely off-topic and unproductive.  WE MUST LEARN TO CONTROL THE USE OF OUR TIME.
   
• The book starts out with the Urgent/Non-Urgent and Important/Non-Important quadrant.  I think that this quadrant was used on one of Steven Covey's books...but if you haven't heard of it yet, this breakdown of how time is spent is amazing!
   
  • The Time Quadrant allows you to determine what efforts are best for success and how to put silly time-wasters aside.  Understanding the concepts of this quadrant are extremely valuable to success. Fortunately, the authors take time to suitably describe the quadrants.
     
• Planning and setting time limits is mentioned in the first part of the transcript and really hit home for me.  Although I plan what I'm going to do, I often haphazardly go at it rather than saying..."I'm going to spend 15 minutes doing x..."  The transcript opened by eyes to areas where time was being sucked out of me.
   
• I finally realized HOW I'm going to plan my first *product* to sell as me being the creator.  Check out Secret #3 as it is ridiculously easy concept!
   
• Secret #4 has changed my life as I've always been one to get the easy stuff out of the way...like responding to eMails.  What I didn't realize is that easy stuff sometimes consumes you and could take ages.  Starting on more complex tasks will allow us to work more productively.  From the transcript, I've also been spurred on to stop responding to every eMail that comes in when and as it come in!!!!
   
• Amongst the other secrets you'll find prioritization, idea notepads, being project specific, automating certain events, and quite a few other goodies.
   
• I thoroughly recommend this FREE ebook as it has helped me to make my day much more productive.  Looking back through my notes, I actually made 3 significant changes to my home-office life and a few minor but helpful alterations.
   
• About the Authors:
  • I don't know Michael Green however he has quite a few products which you can find in the back of the eBook (Surprise, surprise).  His picture is in the back also - he looks young and kind of cute....He claims that he only markets one day a week and makes a fortune. Hmmmmm.
     
  • Peter Twist is the man who arranged the first UK Meet in Birmingham (Jan 04) and I found him to be very kind, knowledgeable and easy-going.  He has a website where he airs interviews with famous Online Marketers along with offering industry news.  If anything, he has an awesome British accent and I really enjoy just listening to him.

• One of my wonderful supporters, Kevin McNally, purchased a subscription for me to a marketing website full of eBooks, tools, software and all sorts of goodies.  Kevin spent $4.97 (less any affiliate kickback) which may seem like an amount not worth mentioning.
   
• ON THE CONTRARY, the gift of Kevin's time, money, compassion and eagerness to help me has been amazing - not only did he offer kind words of support and a vehicle to gain more knowledge but he did this unconditionally.  (He wasn't looking for anything in return).
   
• At first, I was a bit freaked out - not only by Kevin's offering, but from all the support and kindness that I've been receiving from all of you since I started this endeavour to break free from the 9-5 world.  Part of me thought..."This can't be happening.  This kindness and generosity must end - it's just not *normal*.  People  don't give unconditionally...not in this world".  WELL.....MY THOUGHTS WERE WRONG. 
   
• I know - you're thinking, "Kim, where are you going with this...you're suppose to be giving a book review".  Keep reading, it will all make sense soon enough!
   
• Before I left for Florida in February, I went to the membership site (given by Kevin) and found tons of stuff to review.  I figured that I needed something to read on my 9.5 hour flight across the Atlantic.
   
• Out of the plethora of eBooks, I decided to download one called, "The Greatest Money-Making Secret in History!" by Joe Vitale.  The authors name was mentioned by some speakers during the UK Networking Meet in January, so I thought that it would be a good book to start with.
   
• IRONICALLY, the book is about giving unconditionally.  Out of all the books that I could have picked, I found one that displayed the amazing power of giving that Kevin offered unconditionally to me. (spooky - isn't it...read on the hear how it gets even more spooky)
   
• In the introduction of the book, John Harricharan states, "If you want to receive, you must first give...And when you give, don't do it with a heart of fear, but with a heart full of gratitude..."
   
• Bruce Barton, cofounder of a famous advertising agency stated that "If a man (or WOMAN) practices doing things for other people until it becomes so much a habit that he (or she) is unconscious of it, all the good forces of the universe line up behind him (or her) and whatever he (she) undertakes to do."
   
• In a kim-sized-nutshell, the book states that you MUST first give and when you give it MUST be unconditionally, or in other words, without expecting anything to come back from the person you gave to.
   
  • Once you give, and you MUST be happy about giving (you can't give the church 10% if you feel like it's a bill and a burden or give your knowledge and then send an invoice), you start this intangible sequence of events that spark a boomerang effect.  What you give out comes back to you 10-fold.
     
• The Greatest Money Making Secrets in History! is spiritual in the sense that you have to take a leap of faith and just try it.  For the normal person like me (I'm normal - aren't I?)...it first seemed a bit wacky.  Heck, I love to give if I have the resource, but it's always been one of those things that usually comes after I GET; not before.  That was the old Kim...
   
• Okay people, let's look at REAL LIFE example of this *Universal Law of Giving and Reciprocity*
   
  • Kim leaves the structured world of employment to seek out a different life - hopefully one with more meaning and truth.
     
  • Kim decides to learn about making money online.  After realizing that there is way TOO much information, she decides to make a project out of it and tell people what she's learning. (She creates a website open to the entire world)
     
    • Kim thinks that by helping others do what she wants to do, perhaps others will do the same for her (help her out).
       
  • In a sense Kim is spending her time giving knowledge UNCONDITIONALLY to whoever wants to read it in the hope that Kim and everyone she comes in contact with will ultimately benefit and find success.
     
  • Not long after the website went up, Kim started to receive 100's of eMails containing support, knowledge, tips, tricks, and on. 
     
  • PAY ATTENTION HERE....As you all know, Kim's wealth-o-meter amount (as of writing this in February 2004) is Pathetic, so does that mean that the LAW didn't work on a monetary sense????
     
    • OF COURSE NOT YOU SILLY SAUSAGES (that's what Simon calls me...a silly sausage...cute - isn't it?!) 
       
    • Over the past months, Kim has received numerous Joint Venture opportunities like writing newsletters for other people, organising events with the help of the Internet, consulting for small businesses on Internet marketing AND many other. The money is on it's way...
       
    • THE KEY thing to understand is that you just need to start giving and in some way, shape or manner it comes back to you from places you would have never expected!!!!
       
• More IRONICALLY, (this is no joke) mom called me yesterday and said, "Kim, I just read a book on Tithing, but Mark Victor Hanson..." (We both received the same book during our conference we attended in Florida, however I haven't unpacked yet...hehehe).  Tithing is another word for giving or contributing to the world...Once she mentioned the concept, I freaked out and said, "you've got to be kidding Mom...I just read a book on the same topic.."
   
  • Mom and talked and talked and talked for ages about this new Law in our life and we started to realise that all the good things happening to us are because WE ARE GIVING UNCONDITIONALLY.
